We understand small businesses, because we used to be one. From when we were a few dozen employees at a single store, we have never lost sight of what matters: YOU.

In the mid-1940s, Henry Rutrough opened Rutrough-Mack in Roanoke, VA

1980s

In 1981 Frank Ellett became President. In 1988 we were awarded the Freightliner franchise, prompting the name change to Virginia Truck Center.
August 2019

1990s

In 1990 we acquired a Mack dealership in Richmond, and in 1997 acquired the Freightliner franchise for Central Virginia, and consolidated the two in Chester, VA.
August 2019

1999

We opened a new full-service dealership in Weyers Cave, VA.
August 2019

2001

We opened a new full-service dealership in Chesapeake, VA.
August 2019

2007

Freightliner of Charlotte, NC was acquired in February, and in December we also acquired Freightliner of Columbia, SC.
August 2019

2011

We pioneered the Elite Support Program, setting the bar in customer service.

2015

To unify Virginia Truck Center, Charlotte Truck Center, and Columbia Truck Center into one brand, we became Excel Truck Group. Our name changed, but our customer focus did not.

2016

We expanded our North Carolina service with a new dealership in Statesville, NC.
